The book

Ten years in the making

52,000 photographs, distilled to the 300 that became this book — because a place this big doesn't fit in a memory, and barely fits in a book. This is the closest you'll get to holding it.

Look inside

Six regions, six different worlds

Some of these took a single morning, others four years of coming back — but the book was built so that wherever you open it, you arrive somewhere worth standing.

The man behind the book

Arnold Petersen: A decade's devotion

He returned to the Western Cape season after season, until returning was simply how he came to know it. Ten years, 52,000 frames, and one conviction that never moved: that a place this old, and this indifferent to the people at its edge, could only be earned slowly, on its own terms and in its own light. The three hundred photographs he kept are here, each carrying the history of the ground it was taken on — and something of what it asked of him to stay.

Who it's for

Hospitality

Hospitality

Your guests chose the Western Cape. This book lets them hold it — the landscapes they came to see, and the history behind them, told by a South African author born and living here. Placed in a room or a lobby, it gives guests more of the region they travelled for, and shows that your property champions the local talent its visitors come to discover.

Home

Home

A coffee table book made to be seen, not stored — a striking presence in any living space, and a piece of décor that rewards a second look, and a third. It sits as easily in a quiet study as on a coffee table in a room full of guests. Give it to someone who loves the Cape, someone who has moved away and misses it, or someone who has always meant to visit but hasn't yet.
