Hout Bay, Cape Town, South Africa
GeoParallax · formerly Distinct Travel

No place is one place.

Twenty years of returning to the same places caught in films, guides, books, and photographs.

Time is the method.

Every destination we cover is a project of a year or more — researched properly, filmed through its seasons, photographed in every light it offers. Each medium deepens the coverage: what the film shows, the guide explains, the photographs hold, and the book completes. This is what the slow way has produced so far.

Destination guides & documentaries

GeoParallax pairs a documentary filmed on location with an in-depth written guide for every destination we cover — the must-see attractions, hidden gems and best times to visit, drawn from a year or more on the ground in each place. In South Africa we are the locals, born and bred; in Belgium and the Netherlands we have returned season after season.

Formats

Films, guides, books & photography

GeoParallax publishes each destination in four formats, every one a step deeper than the last. Start with the documentary — free on YouTube and embedded in its guide. The field guide adds what the film can't carry: routes, costs and seasons. The book binds ten years on the ground into print, and the photographs behind all of it are available to license.

The story

It started with a camera.

Nearly three decades separate the first Hasselblad frame from the films, guides and books we publish today. Five chapters tell how a camera bought in 1998 became GeoParallax — and why the slow way was worth it.

The camera

It started with a Hasselblad in 1998 and the coast outside our front door. What began as weekend photography on the Garden Route slowly became an archive of the Western Cape.

The Cape Winelands

Filmed across two yearsWestern Cape, South Africa

The Cape Winelands is a GeoParallax documentary currently in production: filmed across two years, with estate interviews recorded through 2025 and 2026 and the final season of shooting still ahead. It follows the people, the cellars and the landscapes behind the Cape's historic wine estates, told the way we tell everything: on location, in person.

Every story in our films is told by the people who live it. We just hold the camera.
